2021 Flu Season and Covid-19 Booster Programme

The Covid vaccination programme has been a huge success, which has seen the Kenilworth and Warwick Primary Care Network vaccinate over 100,000 people since the programme began on the 15th December 2020.

The government has now announced their intention for a third Covid booster vaccine to be given alongside the flu vaccine to the following patient groups:

  • Those aged 65 and over
  • Those aged 18 to 64 in an at risk category
  • Those aged 50 to 64 not in an at risk category
  • Those aged 40 & over

As a network, our five Practices (Chase Meadow Health Centre, Priory Medical Centre, Avonside Health Centre, Abbey Medical Centre and Castle Medical Centre) will be working together to deliver the programmes as we have done since December 2020. We have put together some frequently asked questions which we hope you will find beneficial:

Can the vaccines be given at the same time?

Yes, both vaccinations can be given together, and where possible, we are co-administering the flu vaccine at the same time the Covid booster. If a patient does not wish to have them co-administered, a follow up appointment for the flu vaccination can be arranged.

What if they can’t be given together? Can I have my flu vaccine at the Practice?

If we are not able to vaccinate with both vaccinations, dedicated flu clinics will be arranged for patients who only need a flu vaccination. They will be at Warwick Hall, Stoneleigh Business Park and will not be given at the GP Practice. This is to help us facilitate our planning and simplify the process for our patients.

I had one dose of Covid vaccine, can I have my booster vaccine during one of these clinics?

How will I be invited?

We will send invites through a variety of means; via text message, phone calls and/or letters. Please ensure your contact details are up to date. You can update your contact details here.

Will children’s flu vaccines be given at Stoneleigh Business Park?

No. Children’s flu vaccines will still be given at the GP Practice as currently they are not eligible to receive the Covid vaccine. Children aged 2 and 3 and those at risk who are in secondary school will be invited to attend the Practice in due course.

If I don’t want the Covid booster but I want the flu vaccine can I still book in?

Yes. Your vaccine will still be given at Stoneleigh.

Do I need to wait for 15 minutes after the vaccination?

If you receive the Pfizer booster vaccination you will need to stay for a 15 minute observation period.

Which vaccine will I get?

Both the Moderna & Pfizer vaccinations have been approved for use as a booster dose.
