What appointments can I book via the NHS App?

  • Please see below screenshots of the NHS App and how booking an appointment via the NHS App looks; instructions on how to book an appointment are below:
    1. Please click on “Appointments” once logged in
    2. Please click on “Book an Appointment”
    3. Please click “Checked for available GP appointments” if you wish to book a Blood Test only
    4. Please click on “Ask about a health problem” if you wish to submit an Online Consultation, which will result in this being triaged and an appointment booked at a clinically appropriate time

Will my appointment be on the same day as I submit my Online Consultation?

  • Every day, all Online Consultation requests are reviewed by a GP.
  • These requests may result in an appointment that day, or if our safe daily capacity for Urgent Appointments has been reached, a pre booked appointment in the near future will be arranged.
  • If you are booked an appointment in the future, you will be communicated with via text message / email or NHS App message advising when this appointment has been scheduled for.
  • Not all Online Consultations require an appointment on that day, Online Consultations are triaged by a GP and appointments booked based on urgent clinical need and our capacity for that day.

Will I always see a GP if I submit an Online Request?

  • Online Consultations will always be triaged by a GP & allocated to to an appropriately trained clinician – this may not be a GP.
  • Routine & Acute Appointments can be booked with any member of our team, including a GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Paramedic, Clinical Pharmacist, Nurse, Healthcare Assistant, Pharmacy Technician or Social Prescriber.
  • When booking the appointment, the Triaging GP has assessed that your case can be dealt with by the appropriate clinician, however if the treating clinician needs additional support after assessing your case, they can contact our Supervising GP for support & guidance.
  • A full list of the team we have available at Priory Medical Centre can be found here – Practice Team « Priory Medical Centre

Can I treat myself or access help elsewhere?

  • Not all conditions need to be seen by a GP or by the GP practice; there are multiple sources of medical help in the community for our patients.
  • Please see a guide here – Who do I see? « Priory Medical Centre – of who to seek support from based on your condition. This includes Pharmacy First – NHS England » Pharmacy First – for conditions such as:
    • Sinusitis

    • Earaches
    • Infected insect bites
    • Impetigo
    • Shingles
    • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women
  • Patients can also Self Refer themselves to clinics as per details listed here – Self Referrals « Priory Medical Centre

What do I do if I cannot submit an Online Consultation?

  • Not everyone will be able to submit an Online Consultation when they need help due to age, technological difficulties, logistics etc.
  • As a result, patients can still access help by:
    • Asking for support from a Friend or Relative to submit an Online Consultation
    • Visiting the practice in person and booking an appointment at reception
      • Please note, the reception team will not book this appointment, they will submit an Online Consultation on your behalf for the Triaging GP to review and book via the usual method
    • Ringing our reception team on 01926 293711, who will submit an Online Consultation on your behalf for the Triaging GP to review and book via the usual method

What times can I submit an Online Consultation?

  • Our online consultation system is available Mon to Fri between the hours of 08:00am and 06:30pm
  • Our system is not available outside of these hours as the practice is closed

What can't I submit an Online Consultation outside of hours?

  • As part of the NHS GP contract, GP practices are required to have our online consultation system available Mon to Fri between the hours of 08:00am and 06:30pm
  • Outside of these hours, our system is not available as the practice is closed
  • Leaving the system switched on outside of these hours is non contractual, and it is also not clinically safe
  • Other mechanisms for obtaining urgent & emergency support is available outside of our openign hours – more details here – Contact the practice « Priory Medical Centre

When do your blood taking clinics take place?

  • Our blood taking appointments are normally scheduled from 08:00am until 2:30pm Monday to Friday
  • These clinics times are based on when the ICB commissioned courier service will collect our samples, and the last collection is at 3:00pm daily
  • Due to the above courier restrictions, this is why blood tests are scheduled Monday to Friday between these hours

Why can't I have a blood test on the weekend?

  • Priory Medical Centre open most Saturdays for Extended Access clinics, where we often have a GP, HCA & Nurse working
  • During these clinics, we arrange appointments for those who require uregent assistance and can not wait until Monday, or we arrange appointments for those who find it difficult to attend appointments during the working week
  • Unfortunately, blood tests can not be taken during Extended Access clinics on the weekend, as the ICB commissioned courier service is not commissioned to collect samples on the weekend
  • Samples must be taken from the patient, collected and couriered to a labratory within a specific timeframe, so unfortunately they cannot be left until Monday for our normal collections
  • Priory Medical Centre are currently in negotiations with the ICB to create a weekend courier service, however this is likely to be confirmed in the long term rather than short term
  • If a patient really would like to have a blood sample taken on the weekend, arrangements can be made for the patient to self book an appointment at Warwick Hospital or in Coventry – please ask reception for further details on this service

Prescriptions

How do I request a Repeat Prescription?

  • Patients can request another issue of a Repeat Prescription by:
    • Submitting an Online Consultation
    • Submitting a request form the Medications Tab on the NHS App
      • If you submit your rquest via the NHS App, you can quickly see when the request is approved. Sometimes requests are rejected, and the NHS App will advise you if this is the case.
    • By putting the right hand side of your prescription into the post boxes at Priory Medical Centre or Brese Avenue
    • By speaking to your Community Pharmacy to request the medication on your behalf
  • Medication Requests will not be accepted via email as this is not clinically safe

How long does it take to approve a medication request?

  • Most medication requests are processed on the same day, however to ensure that all requests are dealt with in a safe manner, we kindly request that patients wait 48 hours before visting their nominated pharmacy to collect the medication.

Why are some medications not on Repeat?

  • Some medications are not placed on repeat for a variety of reasons:
    • They maybe Controlled Drugs
    • They may only be required for an Acute condition rather than a Chronic condition
    • Regular checks maybe required (Height, Weight, BMI, Blood Pressure) to ensure that prescribing is done safely
    • There maybe supply issues nationally or locally which means we may need to issue smaller quantities more often to ensure that all patients have equal access to the available medication
  • Currently at present, HRT is subject to a supply issue so will not be placed on Repeat Prescribing until we are informed by NHS England that these issues have resolved

Fear of Flying & Requests for Sedative Medications?

  • We understand that many people experience anxiety about flying, and it is common for patients to ask for sedative medication (such as diazepam) to help manage this.
  • As a practice, we do not prescribe sedatives for fear of flying.
  • For further information on Request for the Prescribing of Sedative Medications for the Fear of Flying, please see our news article here –  Fear of Flying and Requests for Sedative Medication « Priory Medical Centre

Facilities

Why is the car park so busy?

  • As a GP practice with a patient list of nearly 19,000 patients, our facilities are used regularly by our patients attending their appointments.
  • We have 44 car parking spaces on site, 14 of which are in the staff car park, and 30 others available for patients.
  • There maybe occasions when all these car parking spaces are taken up by patients attending clinics at Priory Medical Centre, or Mellors Pharmacy.
  • Unfortunately we do occasionally inappropriately use the car park for other reasons, such as walking in the park or going into town – if you do this, please refrain as this prevents our patients accessing the car park to attend their appointment.
  • We kindly ask patients to park appropriately and not block other patients into their parking spaces or park on the pathments – the site needs emergency access at all times, and unfortunately there have been occasions of when this has been blocked. Inappropriate parking will result in warning letters being issued to patients.

Can you get more car parking facilities?

  • Due to the tight constraints of the site footprint, and to comply with planning restrictions, no more car parking facilities can be placed at Priory Medical Centre.
  • Plenty of public and on road parking can be found in the local area, and the centre is easily accessible via public transport.
  • Please consider car sharing, obtaining a lift from a friend or relative, travelling by public transport or other means when attending your appointment.
